Dear friend, are you ready to master your reactions?  Expectations cannot be met unless they are voiced. You cannot assume and expect someone to read your mind, even if they are very capable of that.

Those kinds of things get misinterpreted and often are disappointing.  Communication is the key.

When we are in reaction mode, oftentimes that communication is not what we wish it to be, because it is emotionally charged.

It is not the words that we are saying, but how we are saying them that creates havoc. That’s what reaction does.

No matter the reason, it can be stressful for others who are present during the emotional reaction. Therefore, it often impacts relationships and can even influence our self-perception.

Here I will highlight what could happen when we react:

  • Mental & Emotional Well-being: It causes burnout, fuels anxiety, promotes depression, and reduces the ability to think clearly or creatively, leading to increased feelings of frustration.
  • Constant reactivity erodes trust and connections with others.
  • Reaction-based living kills strategic thinking, leading to poor, short-sighted decisions and hindering professional growth.

How do I know if I’m over reacting?

Physical Symptoms Accompany Your Emotional Reactions. Overreaction doesn’t just affect your emotions—it can impact your body, too. Physical symptoms like a racing heart, sweating, tense muscles, and even headaches often accompany emotional overdrive.

Here are steps to respond rather than react:

  • Take a Pause: Stop before responding to allow for conscious, rather than automatic, actions.
  • Analyze the Cost: Ask, “What does me more harm, my anger or the thing about which I’m angry?”
  • Shift to Responsiveness: Shift from “reacting” (defensive) to “responding” (responsible), which is constructive and respectful.

So, I will leave you with these 5 Tips To Master Your Reactions and Boost Your Success:

  1. Name your emotions. Verbalize them out loud (I would recommend you do this privately) or write them in a journal.
  2. Recognize how your body feels. Pay attention to any physical symptoms you’re having. …
  3. Use your breath to regain control. Take 10 deep breaths. …
  4. Ask yourself why you reacted. …
  5. Practice mindfulness regularly….

Make it a day in which you master your reactions and boost your success.
