Dear friend, I am sure you would love to be happy. Well, let us unlock that door to happiness and discover the secret to lasting gratitude.
I know, it can be difficult at times to maintain a positive attitude, but at the same time, it is necessary.
It is all too easy to focus on what is going wrong as well as everything that can go wrong, the “what ifs.”
We tend to overlook the many fortunate aspects. We may overlook that we have a home, or we may overlook how fortunate we are that we have a comfortable bed to sleep in, food to eat, and the internet to keep us informed and entertained.
Perhaps we have someone there offering us love and support.
Can you imagine not having any of those things? Can you imagine how fortunate you actually are at this moment to have access to these things?
We need to shift our focus for the moment to what we have available to us that we can truly appreciate.
I am not suggesting that we ignore the “negative” aspects of any situation, but we can become so obsessed with those things that we overlook the positive aspects.
There are so many things in life that we have taken for granted and fail to appreciate, often this is because they are so commonplace.
It often takes losing something to realize how important and how much we appreciate it.
We have a tendency to primarily focus on those things that we do not have or cannot do.
So, the question becomes, what can we appreciate in this moment? What we can be grateful for?
Can we look at what is available and ask ourselves what I have been taking for granted at this moment?
What might I be overlooking? What do I currently have that I am not fully appreciating?
Remember that gratitude isn’t a blindly optimistic approach in which the bad things in life are ignored.
It’s more a matter of where we put our focus and attention.
Pain and injustice exist in this world, but when we focus on the gifts of life, we gain a feeling of well-being.
Gratitude balances us and gives us hope.
Make it a day in which you appreciate what you have and offer gratitude.
